School workshops

Musicians participating in this year's festival will lead workshops in schools across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire:

Love Music Festival

sound has partnered up with the Love Music Festival and Woodend Barn to offer children and young people age 4 to 18 the opportunity to attend four days of outstanding live music events, sound installations and educational activities introducing world-class musicians from across the globe. Love Music Festival will take place in Woodend Barn from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 November and is open to all schools in Aberdeenshire.

 

Other workshops

Just prior to the sound festival, Richard Craig and Margaret Preston lead an introductory course in flute performance and more specifically improvisation, new music techniques and ensemble work. To participate, please return this participation form by Friday 1 October 2010.

This year, sound is organising a workshop lead by Professor Pete Stollery on Sunday 24 October to rehearse Terry Riley's iconic minimalist classic In C. This workshop is open to all – students, schoolchildren, local amateur and professional musicians, so just come along and bring you own instrument(s)! To participate, please return this participation form by Friday 9 October 2010.

On Sunday 31 October, composer Sally Beamish and conductor Garry Walker will work with string players of all ages on Sally's work for solo viola, string quartet, harp and strings Rhapsody on Theme from Hafez. To participate, please return this participation form by Friday 15 October 2010.

On Saturday 13 November, the MacRobert Building will be turned into a hive of interactivity with performances, workshops, demos and sonic "rides" for everyone to take part in. Visitors to the Fair will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on DIY electronic musical instrument building workshop with MTI's Dr Noise, John Richards, who runs DMU's Dirty Electronics Ensemble.
