sound:

north east scotland's festival of new music

sound 2010

From a solo harp recital in Portsoy's Salmon Bothy to a day of electroacoustic music in Aberdeen, sound and its network of partner organisations has planned for 2010 another journey of musical exploration across the North East of Scotland. It will include music by composers such as Steve Reich, Sally Beamish, Peter Maxwell Davies, Graham Fitkin and the best of british eclectroacoustic composers, as well as artists such as Colin Currie, the Smith Quartet, the Hebrides Ensemble, the Red Note Ensemble and Found.

Not only have we programmed a range of different genres of music but also dance through our collaboration with DanceLive, art exhibitions, a 4-day music festival for schools, workshops and talks.

Come to listen to pieces you know and love or join us to discover something new…

sound festival is one of Scotland's true hidden gems… sound is all about music and acts as a umbrella for a range of concerts talks, workshops and performances. It is a festival for everyone and this inclusivity is sure to help it rocket in prominence in the coming years.

The Skinny

It is surprising where contemporary music will flourish as flourish it does in north-east Scotland's sound Festival.

Classical Music Magazine

Central belt trendies must be wondering why nothing of this like takes place in Glasgow or Edinburgh. Perhaps it is the very fact that it's held away from these bigger cities allows it to be just that bit more daring and imaginative in its programming.

Alan Morrison Sunday Herald

I would like to put on record that I am a fan of the Festival… sound has developed in an extraordinary fashion.
