7pm: Community performance of Terry Riley In C

Pete Stollery, director

Programme:

  • Terry Riley In C

After two hours of rehearsal, local musicians come together to perform Terry Riley's iconic minimalist classic In C.

8pm: NYOS Futures

Will Conway, conductor

Programme:

  • Steve Reich Eight Lines

NYOS Futures, the dynamic young contemporary music ensemble of the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland, perform Steve Reich's Eight Lines, one of the most iconic works of the greatest of New York's minimalists.

Under the direction of William Conway, Futures will both perform and dissect Reich's soundscape, allowing the audience a glimpse into the composers's techniques. Characterised by its grunting bass clarinets, driving rhythms and virtuosic writing for two pianos, Eight Lines presents a complex web of hypnotic ruminations.

The young ensemble's reputation for consummate performances is once again intact, with stellar solos and a cohesive sound.
